Young Decision Makers

Since 2002 RFSU has run an advocacy project targeting young decision makers. It has become a model for similar activities in Europe.

We believe that enhanced awareness and increased capacity among the younger decision makers, policy makers and future MPs regarding SRHR will lead to increased political commitments and an increase in the Swedish ODA (Official Development Aid).

Targeting young decision makers has many advantages, including establishing a commitment for SRHR in tomorrow’s parliamentarians and high-level policy makers. Many Swedish youth organizations work internationally and take part in the public debate on development issues.

Integrating SRHR issues into this debate can ensure a broader base of support for increased political and financial resources for SRHR in overseas development assistance. Lastly, by targeting young decision makers, a political youth voice for SRHR can be established. This is very important, considering that young people are heavily burdened with lack of sexual and reproductive health and that the world is today seeing its largest generation of young people in history.
