Description

The goal is to establish possibilities for sustainable male responsibility that will lead to responsible sexual behaviour and respect for women in order to build solid relationships between men and women and hereby prevent sexually transmitted infections including HIV, unwanted pregnancies and sexual abuse. The primary target group will be: staff within PPAZ and UMATI, and in different sectors in the society, for example teachers, church leaders, military personal, civil servant and ministers, sport coaches and youth leaders, doctors and medical staff. Activities planned are: Needs assessment, baseline study, study visits, identification of targets and possibilities to network, workshops, training of key trainers.

Outcome

The evaluation has revealed the following:

  • A drop from 49,8% to 14,6% of young men who felt that girls found with condoms were prostitutes.
  • Condom use increased from 55% to 78% among young men during the project period.
  • Mutual decision-making between men and women regarding condom use increased from 23% to 45%.
  • The number of pregnancies among young girls declined in all project sites.
  • Better climate between girls and boys in schools. Girls dare to report cases of sexual harassment.
  • Communication between men and women has improved and women state that their husbands and boyfriends have become gentler and nicer.
