Description

The aim of the project is to improve the capacity of NCAV in order to raise public awareness of domestic violence and advocacy.

Outcome

  • A number of different activities directed towards parliamentarians and government institutions have been carried out. Among others, a parliamentary committee on drafting a law on domestic violence was set up. The law was passed with 100% of the votes in the Parliament in April 2004.
  • A financial contribution from the Ministry of Social Welfare covering costs for the shelter house has been achieved.
  • Training of police officers regarding counseling of victims has been organized.
  • Capacity building of NCAV staff, such as democratic decision-making, delegation, transparency within the organization regarding information and documentation and increased involvement of staff in discussions etc. has been achieved.
  • The project activities have resulted in a more free and open relation between the media and NCAV. The contacts and cooperation with the media has expanded.
  • NCAV has organized the first conference for victims of domestic violence in Mongolia. The conference is planned to take place on annual basis.
  • Brochures and other information material has been published and distributed to the public.
  • NCAV has together with the Mongolian National Television made a series of five programs in order to raise awareness of domestic violence among the public.
