Description
The goal of the project is to provide better sexuality education for young adults in China. Joint training programmes of sexuality educators and sexual health counsellors are to be conducted. The goal of the project is to be achieved through increased capacity of Chinese sexuality education professionals and improving existing counselling services for young adults.
Expected outcomes
- Trained sexuality education professionals to a level that will enable them to train others.
- Information and knowledge of sexual and reproductive health more easily accessible to young people in the selected cities.
- Confidential counselling and youth friendly clinic services more accessible in the selected colleges/universities and communities.
- Increase awareness of safer sex and STDs, HIV/AIDS among students in selected colleges.
- Increased knowledge of and focus on sexuality education among community leaders in the selected areas/communities.
- Gender sensitivity has been introduced into the sexual and reproductive health education of the trained professionals participating in the program.
Outcome
Seventy-five trainers, including eight master trainers have been trained during the project. After their training, different participants have e.g. initiated the following activities:
- Giving lecture to 60 participants of sexuality education in Wuhan city.
- Providing sexuality counseling to 200 university students in one semester.
- Providing training class to 100 university hospital doctors from Shenzhen city.
- Set up a website for adolescents.
- Attending a radio programme about sexuality education.
- Writing papers and reports on sexuality education in Sweden.
- Providing counseling and teaching to university students during “University students sexual health education week”, where many methods from the courses have been used, e.g. role-plays.
- Opening a special column on sexuality education in the newspaper of the People’s University.
- Providing training to 100 teachers who are engaged in sexuality education at the Chengdu University.
